SomnoMed Academy is a global community of sleep apnea professionals. Our members represent the medical and dental specialists that focus on the treatment of sleep apnea. As we respect your privacy and take it seriously, we have developed this policy to give you an understanding of how we collect, use and communicate your personal data. From time to time, we will update the Privacy Policy as we undertake new personal data practices or adopt any new privacy requirements for different countries.
When you become a SomnoMed Academy member, we collect information about you, including (but not limited to) your name, your company, email, address of the company (postcode and country) and your professional qualifications.
We may also collect your mobile or contact number. Members may provide other information voluntarily in their membership profile at later stages, such as the number of years in your industry, educational background, and other information. Members can log in and edit their profile at any time to change or remove any information.
At SomnoMed Academy, we process your personal information for membership administration, deliver courses and information on sleep apnea, member benefits, and inform you of any webinar or events in the industry. SomnoMed Academy may also process the information understand industry requirements, and tailor-make our educational materials and products to meet your needs.
SomnoMed Academy hosts or sponsors events and webinars throughout the year. If you register for our events and are a member, we will access the information in your member account to provide you with the necessary event information. If you are not a member and you register for our events, we will collect your details (not limited to) such and name and email address, which we will store in our database(s) and use to provide you with information and services associated with the event.
If you are a presenter, we may collect information such as your name, company, contact information, photo (headshot) and also collect information provided by event attendees who evaluated your performance as a presenter. For online webinars, we may also store a recording of your voice, presentation and script.
SomnoMed Academy keeps a record of your participation in events as an attendee or presenter. The information may be used to provide you with membership and certification services. Some of our events are sponsored and are free of charge. For online events, post-event registration and notifications will be given when attendees opt-in and sign up for the event.
In live events or exhibitions, SomnoMed staff may request to scan your badge so that they can contact you to provide you with more information. By allowing SomnoMed to scan your badge, you are consenting to have SomnoMed provide you with information after the event.
SomnoMed Academy, through SomnoMed blogs and newsletters, offers valuable content to our members. In addition to providing original content written, animated or in video format, we also post industry information. We often link to our main website somnomed.com or somaccount.com, where our dental partners purchase products. We will also link via emails or other external partners to SomnoMed Academy and vice versa. This means that, at times, you find yourself reading emails or information that may link to external sources. SomnoMed is not responsible or liable for content provided by third party resources or any personal information that they may collate from you.
You are welcome to become a member of SomAccount or our newsletters without being part of SomnoMed Academy. Many people sign up to receive updates or news even though they are not part of SomnoMed Academy. As each country is different, please refer to the website to sign up for notifications by providing your contact information. In some cases, SomnoMed Academy feeds the data into our internal systems to curate data and profile customers. At your own choice, you may subscribe to receive news and updates and manage subscriptions by subscribing or unsubscribing at any time. From time to time, SomnoMed conducts surveys to understand market conditions, product or patient requirements. We do not track individual data but look at the information in total. Participation in these surveys is voluntary.
If you participate in professional development courses through SomnoMed or SomnoMed independent third party courses, we collect your name and contact information. Your personal information will be collated when you sign up for these courses. We may also conduct professional development courses through independent contractors, and your personal information will be stored by our cloud service provider and may also be shared with education partners or trainers or venue hosting events (to verify your participation and arrival). SomnoMed may use 3rd party hosting service to transfer the information from partners to SomnoMed. SomnoMed partners, trainers, venue hosts and data transfer hosts have agreed not to share your personal information other than to provide you with SomnoMed’s services or products.
When you sign up for Somnomed courses and take quizzes, we will collect your contact information and provide you with a SomnoMed certification when you complete the courses. If we use third party exams or quizzes, we may share your information for them to verify your identity in taking the quiz or exam. In addition, SomnoMed will collect your quiz results and record your participation in continued professional education in conjunction with maintaining your certifications. Only authorized employees in SomnoMed have access to your certification or quiz scores.
If you email or contact us in other forms of communication, we will retain such information to respond to your inquires. We will use the information provided to notify you of any conferences, webinars, publications, new product offerings and keep records of your complaints and other requests. At any time all email you can unsubscribe to email communications from SomnoMed with the unsubscribe link or button on the emails.
SomnoMed Academy processes your data to provide you with products or services, including membership services, events, webinars, publications, certifications and professional development. In addition, we use this information to understand your needs and requirements for oral appliances and tailor-make our courses to better serve and assist you in providing sleep apnea treatment for your patients. We process the data accordingly to meet different countries’ requirements, and we seek consent to keep and record your choices.
Some courses which have fees will collate payment data that is stored securely on payment gateways. Typically, payment card information is provided directly by members and into the compliant payment processing service SomnoMed subscribes to ad SomnoMed does not process or store any card information. Occasionally, members or customers do request SomnoMed employees on their behalf to enter payment card information. We do not encourage any payment information to be sent via email. When SomnoMed employees receive any payment information from customers, it is entered as instructed and then deleted or destroyed.
There are situations whereby SomnoMed receives personal information from third parties. This may occur when you are part of professional development, certification or membership or your organization has enrolled you into SomnoMed courses.
If personal data is not provided, the general content and information are still offered. However, the information provided may be limited. Some personal information is necessary to enable SomnoMed to authenticate your profile and ensure that we are providing the right content for you. You may decide to terminate your subscription anytime to stop receiving any marketing communications.
SomnoMed Academy, like other websites, collects information and stores them in log files. The information may have internet protocol (IP) addresses, the location or region, browser type, operating system, usage of the website, pages viewed and other information. We use the information to help us improve the user experience on the website. We may also use the IP addresses to help diagnose any problems with our server, speed, analyze trends, gather demographic information and history of pages viewed which allows us to identify user preferences. All information is aggregated to run overview reports.
SomnoMed does not collect any sensitive data about you. Sensitive data refers to race or ethnicity, religious or philosophical beliefs, sex life, sexual orientation, political opinions, trade union membership, information about your health and genetic and biometric data. We do not collect any information about criminal convictions and offences.
We also collect user personal information by using cookies on SomnoMed Academy. The definition of a cookie in web terms is a small amount of data that is sent to your browser from a website’s computer, and it is automatically stored on your computer. You are able to set your browser to refuse all or some of the browser cookies or alert you when websites set cookies. However, when you disable cookies, certain sections of the Site may not function properly or become inaccessible.
Some cookies are used with your membership account to easily remember that you are logged in and enable faster access to the Site. In addition, these cookies may be used to facilitate analytics and allow us to analyze traffic. SomnoMed Academy uses the Conversion Tracking Pixel service of Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA (“Facebook”). This tool enables us to see the actions of users when they click from Facebook advertisements. It allows us to review the efficiency of the advertisements and report on key metrics. The collected data is anonymous as we cannot view the personal data of users. The information is collected and processed by Facebook and is per Facebook’s Data Use Policy found on http://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/.
Facebook conversion tracking will allow Facebook and its partners to show you advertising on and outside of Facebook. Cookies will be saved onto your computer for these purposes. Facebook does not share personal information with SomnoMed Academy. Please click here if you would like to revoke your permission or if you would like to withdraw your consent from Facebook. The legal basis for the use of this service is Art. 6 paragraph 1 sentence 1 letter f GDPR. Facebook is certified under the Privacy Shield Agreement and thus guarantees compliance with European data protection legislation.
SomnoMed uses LinkedIn Insight Tag [ LinkedIn Corporation, 1000 W Maude Ave, Sunnyvale, CA 94085, USA (“LinkedIn”) ]. It assists SomnoMed in campaign reporting and insights about website visitors. It is also used to track conversions, retarget website visitors and unlock additional insights about members interacting with our advertising on LinkedIn. The main information collected includes URL, referrer, IP address, device and browser characteristics and time stamp. The data collected is encrypted, the IP addresses are truncated, and members’ direct identifiers are removed within seven days in order to make the data pseudonymous. This remaining pseudonymized data is then deleted within 180 days. LinkedIn does not share personal data with SomnoMed Academy. SomnoMed Academy has links with social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. If you choose to “like” or share information from the SomnoMed website through these services, you should review the privacy policy of that service.
SomnoMed tracks website visitors from our primary website somnomed.com and somaccount.com to SomnoMed Academy, as well as visitors that may enter through a marketing landing page. SomnoMed Academy also records third-party sites accessed when a user is on SomnoMed Academy and clicks on a hyperlink.
We respect our members’ privacy, and as such, you have complete control over your settings on our platform. You can edit profile information via the membership directory, and you can remove yourself from it.
SomnoMed endeavours to process your data with all possible safeguards to protect your personal privacy and security. SomnoMed enters into data processing agreements with its vendors whenever feasible. Where we collect personal information within the European Economic Area (EEA), we have taken steps to ensure that personal information is handled in compliance with the European data protection and privacy legislation. From time to time, we will update the policies to ensure that it reflects the changes to membership and benefits. We reserve the right to amend any of the information on the Privacy Policy at any time without notice to you, other than posting this on the Site.
